Short history of the Cake
Prince von Metternich gave order, 1832, to his chef to create a new dessert for the Royal Family and his Noble Guests. Because of his illness, the chef gave the instruction to his talented apprentice, 16 years old, Franz Sacher to fulfill the mission. The cake he has made which is still carrying his name has been well received by the Prince. The masterpiece was made with chocolate, handmade apricot jam and whipped cream.
The Cake becomes the Hallmark of the House.
Today the Sacher Torte is one of the symbols of Vienna and is carrying the tradition since centuries.

The original Sacher Torte is served at the Sacher Hotel which was opened in 1876 by the son of Franz Sacher. The hotel opened by Eduard Sacher is a luxury hotel in the heart of Vienna in the Philharmonikerstrasse directly opposite the Vienna’s Opera and near the Hofburg Palace, Spanish Riding School and museums.
